Privacy Policy

This website is built so that as little data as possible is processed. There is no account, no advertising, no cookies and no content from third parties: fonts, scripts, Bible texts and images are all served from our own server. Drawing, filtering and saving verses and designing verse cards happen in your browser.

2. Hosting

The website runs on our own server at Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, in its Nuremberg data centre. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Hetzner. No data is transferred to third countries.

3. Visiting the website and server log

To deliver a page, a font or a Bible file, the server processes your IP address and the details your browser sends with the request. No general access log is kept.

Only requests for addresses that are typically probed in attacks (for example login pages of other systems or hidden configuration files), none of which exist on this website, are logged. In that case the log contains the date and time, your IP address in shortened form (IPv4 without the last byte, IPv6 only the first 48 bits), the requested address, the request headers without cookies and credentials (for example the browser identifier and the referring page) and the status code. The purpose is to protect the server against attacks. The log is started afresh every day and deleted after 14 days. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is secure and reliable operation.

4. Storage in your browser (localStorage)

So that your settings survive a reload, the website stores the following in your browser's local storage (localStorage): your choice of light, dark or automatic theme, your filters (for example topics, section, translation, length), the history of recently drawn verses, your saved verses and, if applicable, your objection to audience measurement (section 7). This consists of settings and verse references, not information about you. The data stays on your device, is never sent to us and can be removed at any time in your browser settings (clear site data). The legal basis is § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG (German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act), as the storage is strictly necessary for the function you have requested.

5. Sharing, copying and verse cards

“Copy” places the verse and its reference on your device's clipboard. “Share” opens your operating system's share menu; you decide which app to use, and the provider of that app is responsible for any further processing. Verse cards are drawn entirely in your browser and only handed over as an image file to the app you choose or to your downloads folder when you share or download them. None of this is sent to us.

A shared link contains the verse reference and the translation in its address (for example ?v=JHN.3.16&t=kjv). Anyone who opens the link requests that address from our server; the link contains no information about you.

6. Contact

If you contact us by e-mail or phone, we use your details only to answer your enquiry and delete them once they are no longer needed for that purpose and no statutory retention period applies. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for enquiries relating to a contract.

7. Audience measurement (Matomo) and your objection

To learn which pages and features are used, we use the open-source software Matomo. Matomo runs on our own server, also at Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany; the data is not shared with third parties. Matomo sets no cookies, shortens the IP address before storing it and does not measure if your browser sends “Do Not Track”. Measurement starts only a few seconds after a page has been opened.

Matomo records the address of the page visited (for shared links without the verse reference), the referring page, date, time and time spent, the approximate region derived from the shortened IP address, device type, operating system, browser and language, as well as clicks on external links and downloads. Which verses you draw or save is not transmitted. The data is only evaluated in aggregate and deleted once it is no longer needed for that purpose. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is improving this service.

You can object to measurement here. Your objection is stored in this browser's local storage and applies only to this device and this browser; clearing the site data also clears the objection.

8. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). Where we process data on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21). A message to the contact details above is enough.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW), Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany, www.ldi.nrw.de.

You are not obliged to provide us with any data. No automated decision-making, including profiling, takes place.
