What to draw from
Bible verses for baptism, for a baby, a child or an adult. The list includes passages often chosen for baptism cards and certificates, such as Numbers 6:24–26, Isaiah 43:1 and Matthew 28:20, as well as less familiar ones.
Choosing a baptism verse
In some churches, a verse is chosen for each person who is baptized and read during the service; in others it appears on a card, a certificate or an invitation. For a child, the parents and godparents usually choose it, often together with the pastor. Read the verse in its chapter first, because some of these promises were first spoken to Israel or to an early church. A short verse is easier to print and to remember. If your church uses a particular translation, you can ask whether its wording should be used instead.
