What to draw from
Bible verses for weddings and marriage: for the ceremony, the invitation, a card or an anniversary. The list includes passages often read at weddings, such as 1 Corinthians 13:4–7, Ruth 1:16 and Ecclesiastes 4:12, as well as less familiar ones.
Choosing a wedding verse
Couples often choose a verse together, sometimes with the minister who leads the ceremony. It may be read during the service, printed in the program or on the invitation, or engraved on a gift. Some of the best-known wedding verses were not first written about marriage: Ruth 1:16 is spoken by Ruth to her mother-in-law, and 1 Corinthians 13 is addressed to a whole church. Many couples choose them anyway, and reading the context helps you decide. For a card, a short verse usually reads best.
