The wisdom books

Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Job are often called the wisdom books of the Old Testament. Proverbs collects short sayings about work, speech, family and dealing with others, many of them in two halves that contrast or repeat each other. Such sayings can often be read on their own, while the letters tend to build an argument over several verses. In the New Testament, James 3 contrasts two kinds of wisdom. The context view shows where a saying stands, and comparing the BSB, KJV and WEB can make an older phrase easier to follow.
