Bible Verses for Comfort
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
What to draw from
Bible verses for comfort in times of loss, illness, loneliness or fear. Many come from the Psalms, from Isaiah and from the letters of Paul, who writes in 2 Corinthians 1 about comfort he had received himself. Draw one at random or read the full list below.
When you write to someone
A verse can say what is hard to put into words, but it does not have to carry the whole message. Many people write a few personal lines and add a short verse with its reference. For a sympathy card, verses from Psalm 23, Psalm 34 or Matthew 5:4 are often chosen. Read the verse in its chapter before you send it. If you are looking for verses for a funeral or a memorial service, the page on grief has its own list.
